Stonehaven Community Learning & Development

The Stonehaven Community Learning & Development team covers the area including the town of Stonehaven, the coastal villages of Catterline, Inverbervie, Gourdon and Johnshaven and inland villages of Kinneff and Drumlithie.

The role of community learning and development is to empower individuals, groups and communities. Learning opportunities are offered in a variety of ways – through group work, casual conversation, one-on-one sessions, and community action – making learning accessible for everyone.

Current work that the team is involved in includes:

Learning for young people

  • The P7 transition program which is a partnership project with schools which supports young people moving from primary to secondary school.
  • An employability Program for 4th, 5th & 6th years which includes writing a CV, interview skills, visits to the Job Centre, team building.
  • A Youth Forum who come together and look at issues affecting young people.

Learning for adults

  • We offer a free and confidential service to people looking for help to improve reading, writing or numeracy skills or anyone whose first language is not English (ESOL support).  We have  experienced and qualified tutors who are able to help give individual support in an informal setting at a time and place convenient to you

Building Community capacity

  • This is about getting to know our communities and also helping communities to grow. This might be through supporting community groups or community engagement processes.
